In just three months, the 34,000-seat Nas-sau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, the first-ever modular cricket stadium, should be finished. It will host eight matches at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, including the highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan on June 9.
With sustainability at the forefront of this project, the grandstands from the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix are being repurposed for the T20 World Cup venue. The design team behind this ambitious project is Populous, renowned for creating some of the most iconic stadia worldwide, including the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The stadium will feature an array of seating options including premium and general admission, VIP and hospitality suites, as well as a unique party deck and cabanas.
They are the official record architect for the New York Yankees and New York Mets in New York. "To guarantee that players and fans can enjoy an unforgettable experience across the eight matches in New York in June this year, we are partnering with world-class suppliers to deliver the modular stadium," the statement reads.
In addition to providing a top-notch experience for cricket fans, the stadium will have a dedicated fan zone, a range of food and beverage options, and cutting-edge media and broadcast areas. The wicket, a drop-in square akin to those found at Eden Park and Adelaide Oval, is presently being curated in Florida and will be shipped to New York in early May.
The location, which is 30 miles east of Manhattan, will have easy access to parking and transportation, as well as three train stations nearby. Fans will get the chance to witness a cricket festival featuring the best players in the world as eight T20 World Cup matches, starting on June 3 between South Africa and Sri Lanka, will be held there.
