An apartment building in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, caught fire, resulting in the suffocation deaths of a Pakistani man and his 11-year-old daughter.
The man's wife was sent to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Al Qassimi Hospital in critical condition, an official said.
The Pakistani couple's other two children, a five-year-old boy and a nine-year-old girl, are currently recuperating in the hospital after being moved due to suffocation symptoms.
The director-general of Sharjah Civil Defence, Brigadier Sami Khamis Al Naqbi, informed Gulf News that the flat is situated on the third level of the building in the Muwaileh district.
"The fire started out in this apartment on the third floor of the building, and smoke spread throughout the entire structure." he reported.
Tenants of the three-story building have been evacuated, according to the official, who stated that the fire started at 2:08 a.m. and firemen arrived on the scene at 2:12 a.m.
To ascertain the incident's cause, an investigation has been started.
